Nagar Rd was made ‘signal free’ a few months ago, and now pedestrians are find it impossible to cross the road safely, because of the non-stop flow of vehicles. The same story repeats at Fatimanagar on Solapur Road.
Residents at Fatimanagar have been trying to raise the issue with officers and leaders, but to no avail. We joined hands with them to stage a novel demonstration at Fatimanagar, by manually stopping the traffic so that people can cross the road.
That made the DCP-Traffic understand the intensity of people’s feelings and he granted us a meeting. In the meeting he promised to place a constable there, at least during peak hours, to help people cross the road.
This promise has turned out to be mere lip-service, and pedestrians continue to be at risk, with small collisions and injuries being the norm.
